Do you record live?
Yes! All recordings are done live with our speakers (on calls - for now!) to mimic the ‘informational interview’ experience. Minimal sound editing is done to improve the listening experience.
What inspired you to start this show?
I found myself having these types of “interviews” and conversations with people I was interested in speaking with, especially as COVID made it more difficult to meet with people in person. Further, as myself and my friends have started gaining experience in our corresponding fields, catching up on what they did for work was becoming more difficult, in a sense. I had the thought to bring the two together: informational interviews with friends whose jobs I wanted to know about - and here we are.
What do you do with your donations?
We cover some of our (minimal) costs to run the show (domain, hosting, ads, etc.); the rest goes to two charities our team feels connected to: A Better Chance and iMishpacha.
You seem to cover a lot of STEM topics. Will you cover more broad fields and career paths?
Yes! Most of our team comes from STEM backgrounds and has connected our interests to those of the people around us. As the number of ‘people’ and our audience grows, we intend to cover a wide spectrum of fields to the best of our ability. If something is still missing by the time you’re reading this, submit to our newsletter and let us know what you want to hear and we’ll do our best to make it happen.
How do you have time for this?
Good question….we…”don’t,” but we find time in the day to do the things that we enjoy. For us, it’s connecting people, ideas, and exchanging our own modern histories. Everyone has their own unique route to get to where they are in life, with different trials and tribulations along the way, and these stories deserve to be heard. We can all learn a lot from each other, and our team decided to use our time to do that for you.
How long do you expect to do this for and how many episodes are you planning?
The first eight (8) episodes of the show were originally created to gauge our audience and seek feedback for the show - think of it as a collective pilot season. We are in the midst of putting together a second batch of (more diverse) episodes for release, but who knows! We do this in addition to our full time jobs, school, and other hobbies, so if you want more, letting us know will motivate us to keep going!
